Chinese anime (also known as Chinese Donghua) is rapidly gaining popularity among anime fans. Despite the fact that Chinese Donghua has been present since the 1930s, most anime fans are more familiar with Japanese animation.
Chinese animation, on the other hand, is distinguished from Japanese anime by its engrossing storylines that highlight their rich cultural history and contemporary way of life. Similarly, some Chinese anime are Manga or Manhua adaptations. As a result, in order to shed more light on them, I’ve compiled a list of the greatest Chinese anime of all time. Enjoy!
Wangpai Yushi is number 20.
Wangpai Yushi is a 2014 original cartoon anime that premiered on Cartoon Network. Despite being a supernatural tale, the anime has a straightforward narrative. Xiaoyan Huang and Ye Yan, who are top-ranking supervisory officials in China, serve as censorates.
The tale is set in an universe where day and night have fused into one. There is no separation between the Ying and the Yang, and people and monsters live side by side. However, since perfect harmony is almost difficult to attain, certain wicked animals enjoy causing havoc.
As a result, mankind must tame such creatures. And it’s at this time that Haung and Yen enter the narrative, tasked with taming the animals.
Da Yu Hai Tang, no. 19
Next on our list is another fantastic anime that is full of adventure and drama. This anime, which debuted in 2014, is set in a world populated by legendary and magical creatures.
The tale of one such magical creature, a girl named Chun, is told in Da Yu Hai Tang. Once a person reaches the age of majority in Chun’s culture, they must go through a rite of passage.
Chun goes through the rituals when she is old enough, which include living in and experiencing the human world. Chun is ecstatic to be able to join the human world as a dolphin.
Chun eventually gets caught in a fishing net. She tries, but she can’t seem to break away. Fortunately, a lad appears and frees her, but unfortunately, the boy drowns while attempting to rescue her.
Chun, overwhelmed with remorse and grief, contemplates resurrecting him at the expense of half her life. Is it, however, a choice she will come to regret?
Mo Ri Shu Guang is 18 years old.
I’m sure you’ll love Dawn of the World if you enjoy seeing brain-eating zombies pursue humans across the screen. The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic China. The majority of the human population has turned into zombies, but few hardy individuals are still attempting to live under dreadful conditions.
Meng Feng, a warrior and fighter, and Liu Yan, an engineer and strategist, are the central protagonists of the series. As a result of their creativity and the assistance of the surviving people, a new dawn of hope arises.
I suppose what they claim is true. There’s always a ray of sunshine at the end of the tunnel.
Hitori No Shita is number seventeen in the Hitori No Shita series.
Chou Soran, a kid from a rich household whose grandpa died, is the protagonist of Hitori No Shita. Soon later, he discovers that his grandfather’s grave has been desecrated. As a result, he sets out on a journey to discover why.
Zombies attack him on his route, but he is rescued by a lovely girl named Fuu Houhou.
We discover that Fuu and Soran are magical creatures after their meeting. Also, anybody who knows how to utilize Ki and martial arts as a weapon is considered an outsider. Soran has now revealed himself and is being pursued by individuals from several groups. Fuu explains the situation to him.
This anime is very enjoyable and humorous. It’s a lighthearted supernatural zombie animation.
Hi, Ze Tian!
Some fragments of a strange meteorite that collides with Earth fall in the Eastern Continent. Residents must now figure out what it’s for, as well as find a method to use the engravings on its body to create traditions.
Many years later, a young orphan named Chen Chang Shang sets out on a life-changing trip, during which the unimaginable occurs. This 13-minute animation also serves as a narrative, a mystery, and a revelation. As a result, the story is complex, and the characters are distinct.
Wo De Tian Jie Nuyou (Wo De Tian Jie Nuyou)
The plot of this tale takes place in a realm of agriculture. The premise is simple: in a typical survival of the fittest arrangement, the strong growers kill the weak cultivators to climb to the top. The idea that the strong survive while the weak perish makes the whole world extremely calculative.
Ma Ying Xiong enters the narrative here, and her cultivation adventure starts when she saves and takes the abilities of a cultivator girl called Lu Zi. Sneaky! Given that it is an accident, maybe not that slick.
Regardless, he must sign a contract to become a farmer or die; speak about being stuck between a rock and a hard place. Lu accepts to become a farmer since no one wants to die.
Unfortunately, his decision has repercussions, as Ma and Lu must now confront an evil sage who is constantly hunting them down, attempting to take their abilities. Nonetheless, I liked it since a handful of ecchi moments helped to lighten the tone of the more serious material. And who wouldn’t want to witness anything like that?
Meng Qi Shi Shen (14), Meng Qi Shi Shen (14), Meng Q
This fantastic Chinese animation is based on the same-named online book, Meng Qi Shi Shen, which translates to “adorable food goddess.” In 2018, this anime aired. Oh well, Ye Jiayao is a time traveler who finds herself in Ye Jinxuan’s body.
Her ambition, however, has always been to open a restaurant in Huai Song. As a result, he believes she can accomplish her objectives and reach for the sky. Unfortunately, certain enemies do not want her to succeed.
As a result, they create division and stir up debate in her vicinity. Will Ye, on the other hand, be able to defeat her critics?
Fans are now anticipating the start of a new season. After all, who doesn’t like a food-themed anime with a strong young heroine and a hint of romance?
Jie Mo Ren is 13 years old (The Devil Ring)
Right, the title is fairly accurate. Zhou Xiaoan, you guessed it, wears a ring without knowing where it came from. Soon after, a blood demon emerges from his lips, addressing him as King Zhou of Shang. But, of course, he isn’t the King of anything; at this point, he’s a little befuddled.
The demon is part of a nasty race of heart-eating undead, and it speaks a lot. As a result, he exposes some odd historical facts that Zhou must now confront.
Zhou eventually learns of a clandestine organization of Taoist priests who battle the blood demons. He also knows of other creatures from a strange planet who can fit in with human civilization undetected. This seems to be quite a lot; well, what can I say? Just be cautious with your jewelry selection.
And, while we’re on the subject of options, this is a solid pick for a Chinese anime. Don’t bring it up.
12. Gin without a defender The Silver Guardian is a fictional character.
Who doesn’t like a protector? The Chinese series is based on the same-named Manhua. Suigin Ruki, a high school student and gamer, is the protagonist of the narrative. Suigin leads a very normal existence here, struggling to make ends meet until one day he chooses to save a drowning cat.
Because he doesn’t know how to swim, he almost drowns and must be saved by the lovely Rei Ruki. Rei happens to be the daughter of his favorite game director, which makes him understand how tiny the world is.
Suigin is heartbroken when the game is abruptly canceled. However, when a new game is released, Rei is abducted. He must now locate her in order to return the amount he owes.
This anime is a personal favorite of mine and many others, with over 500 million views. Wow! There must be something enthralling about it.
Mi Yu Xing Xhe (#11)
Uncharted Walker is a fan favorite because the characters are well-developed and the plot is compelling. It starts when a bunch of misfits wakes to find themselves stranded on a barren island.
How will they survive being surrounded by tribesmen attempting to murder them, diseases, and a slew of other obstacles? Remember the movie Jumanji?
In any case, the tale finishes on a fantastic cliffhanger. I’m looking forward to the next season, as are all Chinese anime lovers.
Yoa Shen Ji is number ten.
Although the animation isn’t very outstanding, the narrative is compelling enough to warrant inclusion on our list. It’d almost certainly end up on your favorite’s list.
Nie La is a novice demon spiritist at first. However, through a lot of hard work and dedication, he builds up his strength till he reaches the top of the martial arts world.
However, tragedy comes, as Nie La is killed by the Sage Emperor and other monsters during a battle. As a consequence, his soul is returned to his 13-year-old self, and he reverts to the lesser version of himself.
Even though, he tries to assist people in need while still killing the holy family to preserve his city. Remember that this family was responsible for the destruction of the city in his previous existence.
Tong Ling Fei (nine)
Psychic Princess is another name for the anime. Despite the fact that the program is labeled as a comedic romance drama, the plot is neither. The emperor has ordered Qian Yushang to marry Ye Youming.
However, Qian is concerned that she may be abused as a result of the rivalry between the families.
Qian Aotian makes the decision to expose his daughter, Qian Yun Zi, whom they had kept hidden due to her unusual abilities. Yun Zi agrees to appear, only to be turned down by Qian Yushang.
He can’t stay away from her for long, however, since she is charming, attractive, and strong.
Mo Dao Zushi (No. 8)
All Cultivators in this anime aspire for a condition of immortality known as Xian. Cultivators must, however, avoid a secret demonic route known as the Mo Dao. Wei Wuxia, a Cultivator, wanders the route by mistake.
As a result, he is beset by misfortune until he is killed by his closest ally. He is subsequently reborn as a madman, and he embarks on a magical adventure with his coworker Lang Wangji, complete with obstacles and intrigue.
Despite this, the two develop an unforeseen connection.
7. Cangqiong Doupo
Xian Yan, a strong young kid, is the protagonist of the tale. Despite the fact that no one understood where his tremendous strength came from, everyone feared him and revered his family. He’s also betrothed to La Na Ya Ran, a young woman from a powerful family.
It’s all flowers and sunshine until his abilities suddenly begin to wane. Yikes! He grew weak three years later, and society scorned his family. Not only that, but La Na also wants to end their relationship.
Xian unexpectedly challenges her to a fight. The conditions are straightforward: she wins and has the option to end the engagement; he wins and has the option to do anything he wants with her. And may the best man or woman win, as the saying goes.
Rakshasa Street is number six.
Zen Hun Jie is how it’s spelled in Chinese. It is a supernatural action anime based on a Chinese Manhua that first broadcast in 2016. Nonetheless, I’m confident you’ll like Zen Hun Jie if you enjoy seeing strong spirits and humans battle one other.
The anime’s whole story revolves on Rakshasa Street, which is a place where people and ghosts coexist. However, not every creature, human or spirit, is allowed to enter.
However, the anime heroine, Xia Long, eventually enters Rakshasa Street, an act that would permanently alter her life.
Lan Mo De Hua, No. 5
I like romance in many genres, even anime. If you’re looking for more romance, La Mo De Hua is a romantic anime with a magical premise. The show premiered in July of 2017.
Lan Mo and Lui Yi Feng are the central characters in this brief romantic animation. Lan Mo wishes Lui would love her as much as she loves him, but he regards her just as a friend. Anyway, Lan Mo isn’t one to give up easily, and she discovers a magical hairpin that allows her to change her appearance.
She intends to make Lui fall in love with her by using this hairpin.
Lan Mo, on the other hand, soon recognized that the strategy was insufficient for her. Lui should fall in love with herself without the hairpin, she says. Is it enough, or does she need to use another trick from her bag of tricks?
Doulou Dalu is number four on the list (Soul Land)
The anime takes place in Doulou, a town where everyone has an inherent soul. As a result, some inhabitants are able to tap into their inner selves and become spiritual masters.
Following Tang, a pupil of the renowned martial arts clan and their greatest trainee in the use of concealed weapons, the tale continues. He, on the other hand, abandons his tribe in quest of lost knowledge. He takes a leap of faith into hell’s highest point, only to be reborn on an alien planet.
Finally, he enters the spirit masters competition only to find that he has a spirit that is worthless. Is it therefore too late to return?
3. Quanzhi Fashi (Quanzhi Fashi)
Life isn’t always kind to everyone. Mo Fan, on the other hand, finds it intolerable. His father is not just a poor, impoverished worker, but his sister is also disabled. As a result, Mo Fan must work whatever job he can find to make ends meet.
Fortunately or unfortunately, destiny intervenes, and Mo Fan is taken to a parallel world that resembles his. Except that magic takes precedence over science there.
Students of magic are taught spells and how to utilize their abilities to ward off terrifying creatures in that realm. Intriguingly, Mo Fan gets admitted into the renowned school while he dreams of being a magician.
Despite being ridiculed for being a poor man’s kid on occasion, nothing can knock him down. When it comes to grace, talk about grass. The program gets an excellent overall rating.
2. Qi Ling (Spiritpact)
Ling Qi is one of our most popular tales. It is another amazing supernatural anime that was adapted from a Chinese Manhua with the original plot changed. Despite this, it is still one of the greatest anime films ever made in China.
Yang Jinghua, the series’ protagonist, is a complete failure. However, he is going to have much more terrible luck. He gets injured in an accident one day, and when he wakes up, he discovers he has aged 10 years.
For a brief moment, Yang believes he has been reincarnated and can begin living his life again; maybe this time he will be wealthy. Yang, however, meets a white-haired guy who informs him that he is dead.
This catches him off guard.
After that, the guy asks Yang if he wants to spend the remainder of his spiritual life with him. Hopefully, he’d be well-off by then.
1. The King’s Avatar (Quan Zi Gao Shou)
The King’s Avatar was one of, if not the greatest, Chinese anime, and it is my personal favorite. Ye Xiu is a professional player in the game Glory, and he is a star here. As a result of his abilities and unrivaled track record, he was dubbed the “Battle God.”
He eventually takes his friends’ advise and abandons his gaming profession. Because Ye now works at an internet café, he is aware that the game’s ninth server has been launched.
Ye re-enters the game world as Lord Grim right away. He can defeat most others thanks to his vast expertise, and his goal of becoming the first to reach Glory’s pinnacle is now within reach.
